Our Location in Havana

Location: Our beautifully restored Casa is located in downtown Havana in the area known as La Habana Vieja (Old Havana) and is a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Also known as ¨ The Historical Quarter ¨ from which you can enjoy the marvellous architecture of a timeless city. This private house is also very near the capitol of Havana, surrounded by many well-known restaurants such as ¨El Floridita¨ and ¨La Bodeguita del Medio¨, bars, coffee shops, stores, and other interesting places.

Havana founded in 1519 by the Spanish. By the 17th century, it had become one of the Caribbean’s main centres for ship-building. Although it is today a sprawling metropolis of 2 million inhabitants, its old centre retains an attractive mix of Baroque and neoclassical monuments, and a homogeneous ensemble of private houses with arcades, balconies, wrought-iron gates and internal courtyards. Havana, last of the cities founded in Cuba by the Spanish conquistadores, had become by 1550 the largest on the island, a position that it has continued to hold. Havana was established at its present location in 1519 by the Spanish and became one of the Caribbean’s main centres for shipbuilding. Its location made of the city a perfect gathering point for the annual treasure fleets bound for Spain from Mexico and Peru: Havana became the front door to the vast Spanish colonial empire, and in 1607 it also became the capital of Cuba.

Havana Today: With the restoration of US and Cuban relations under way, the Cuban capital’s days as an open-air museum where time stood still. As the country opens up to the outside world, its people look likely to push for faster change are rapidly coming to an end. The time to visit Havana and us at Casas Havana is now.
